Using the landing gear/jacks on the 5th wheel to make it level, then measure from the ground to the bottom of the pin box skid plate, not the king pin, and record the measurement. One trailer we purchased was at the height we like to pull, about 4" high in the front. For these height-adjustment attachments, gooseneck trailers use two large self-tapping screws, located near the hitch. Our driveway is not level. Different versions of the gooseneck hitch have different difficulty levels of installation. If you are using a gooseneck-to-5th-wheel hitch adapter that does not allow you the correct hitch height to keep your tandem axle horse trailer level then your options are to either install taller spring hangers on the trailer or to use an over-under kit like part # K71-385-00. I drive an F350 pulling an older gooseneck. The gooseneck can be installed below the bed of the truck as well. I appreciate that that is not the best set up for the rear trailer tires, but my trailer is not heavily loaded. Our second trailer needed to be adjusted. Being 1.2 inches high on your fifth wheel trailer should be just fine. If you do not feel like you could do this yourself I suggest taking it back to the place you had the gooseneck installed. Gooseneck trailers use attachments that are very similar to those for fifth-wheel campers, including attachments designed to make it easier to adjust your trailer to its recommended towing height. What you will do is park the truck and trailer on level ground. Typically being within a couple inches of level will work just fine. Fortunately, whether you’re looking to buy a new truck or trailer or you just need to fit a gooseneck to your truck, there are a number of “dos and don’ts” that can help you get the right gooseneck trailer clearance and stay safe on the road, without denting the sides or tailgate of your truck. Obviously being perfectly level is absolutely ideal, but in your situation you are close enough and would not have any issues. B&W said by allowing the front part of gooseneck hitch to drop a little will help compensate for the bed and level out the 5th wheel hitch when sitting in the bed. Gooseneck Hitch VS Fifth Wheel Hitch: They both are mounted on the bed of the truck. We hooked up and went to our high school that has a large level parking lot. To clear the truck bed side rails, the trailer column hitch is set a little high and the trailer itself is not quite level.
