Chassis Chassis is a French term and was initially used to denote the frame or main structure of a vehicle. Steel includes not only vehicle bodies, but also engine, chassis, wheels and many other parts. The term rolling chassis consists of a frame and the rolling gear like the engine, drive shaft, transmission, differential, suspension etc. 1. The term chassis is now extensively used to denote the complete vehicle except body for the heavy vehicle a separate body. Ladder Chassis: Ladder chassis is considered to be one of the oldest forms of automotive chassis or automobile chassis that is still used by most of the SUVs till today. The origin of the word Chassis lies in the French language. It supports all the parts of the automobile attached to it. The improvement or development in the steel industry made the steel stronger, lightweight and stiffer than the earlier. - An automobile probably has about 7,000 different parts in it. The backbone of any automobile, it is the supporting frame to which the body of an engine, axle assemblies are affixed. Some of them make it more comfortable or better looking, but most of them are to make it run. The Basic Components of an Automobile. To study automobile chassis and automobile body Prepared by : Rudrik Joshi 2. In a vehicle, it is analogous to the skeleton in living organisms. - An automobile probably has about 7,000 different parts in it. This is a good question, I think. The chassis is considered to be the most significant component of an automobile. The functional components are described as a rolling chassis. Sometimes, they think they both are similar things. Vehicle chassis Introduction of Chassis Frame • Chassis frame is the basic frame work of the automobile. Most people get confused between chassis and frame. Iron and steel develop the critical components of structure for the bulk manufacturing of vehicles and are low-cost. Automobile frames provide strength and flexibility to the automobile. It bears all the stresses on the vehicle in both static and dynamic conditions. Every vehicle whether it is a two-wheeler or a car or a truck has a chassis-frame. • All the parts related to automobile like powerplant, transmission, steering, suspension, braking system, etc are attached to and supported by it only. Chassis is a collective term for all the parts of a vehicle except the body work. Propel and control a automobile 5. Chassis is the main support structure of the vehicle which is also known as ‘Frame’. It is the most crucial element that gives strength and stability to the vehicle under different conditions. 3. Chassis consists of engine, brakes, steering system & wheel mounted on the frame, differential, suspension.
